The Cedars To Become A Fairmont-Branded Luxury Residence

The Cedars, a historic hotel owned by the Shipman family since 1976 and located in Hendersonville, North Carolina, is set to become Fairmont Heritage Place – The Cedars, Hendersonville, the first luxury residential development of its kind in the Blue Ridge Mountain region. The development will comprise 127 luxury condo units in two new six-story, mid-rise buildings connected to the restored original building by a glass atrium. The condos will consist of one-, two- and three-bedroom units and penthouses, with prices ranging from $550,000 to $4 million. The historic building will contain a lobby lounge, bar, signature restaurant, specialty café and front desk. The property will also feature flexible meeting and events spaces, an expansive wellness center with spa, multiple swimming pools, a fitness center, a cooking school, a multifunctional family room and retail space. Owners will be able to participate in a rental program, where they can let Fairmont rent out their condos to short-term renters.

In February 2021, the Hendersonville City Council approved the rezoning of the property to support the restoration of the historic building and the development of two new condo buildings. Work on the site is now beginning, with residences set to debut in early 2025. Market studies show less than two months’ supply of available housing inventory, with demand outnumbering supply. The Cedars will continue to host weddings, and the west lawn will be redone with weddings in mind.

The Cedars hotel, which sits on the National Register of Historic Places, was originally built in 1914 for Jeannie Bailey, whose husband J.W. Bailey headed Southern Railway. Fairmont is part of Accor, the second-largest operator of luxury hotels in North America and a leading hospitality group worldwide, with more than 80 locations around the globe and several under development.

Fairmont CEO Heather McCrory said the development will be the most luxurious branded residential offering in the state, adding that Fairmont is committed to the stewardship of landmark hotels, restoring and preserving historic buildings with great care. The sales gallery is currently open and located at 739 North Main St., Hendersonville. Sales are expected to launch soon.
