Miami developer Gregg Covin selects A-list designer for luxury condo project

Miami-based developer Gregg Covin has commissioned Antrobus Design Collective to redesign and convert The Cedars Hotel, a famous 1914 landmark property in Hendersonville, North Carolina, into an ultra high-end residential complex called Fairmont Heritage Place - The Cedars. The hotel was designed and built by hotelier Jeannie Bailey, an impressive achievement at a time when women still didn't have the right to vote. The project aims to combine luxury hospitality with residential living, and homeowners will have access to first-class amenities and services. The Cedars is expected to comprise 130 residential units and will include new construction that incorporates the original historic hotel.

Gregg Covin chose Antrobus Design Collective to reimagine The Cedars after searching for a designer who could combine history with a luxury residential setting. Antrobus is an experienced designer, who has worked on high-profile projects globally, including in Miami, Beverly Hills, and Fisher Island. At the core of Antrobus' design philosophy is the importance of storytelling in every project, driven by a unique story and context. She aims to create an authentic and special experience for residents and visitors.

Antrobus' creative ethos and inspiration for the redesign of The Cedars come from its rich history and the local geography. The property is located in an area of Western North Carolina known as "Aspen East," becoming a popular vacation destination and second-home location. The decor will incorporate natural elements such as wood, stone, and agate native to the area. The design elements will also maintain a feeling of outdoor living, inspired by North Carolina's mountains, rivers, and fresh air. The check-in area will feel like a private study or den, while a lounge will be set in a library. The redesign will preserve the building's welcoming hospitality, built by Mrs. Bailey, by maintaining the scale of small parlor rooms.
